Who is claire shep anyway?

I came to politics later in life, despite studying for a degree in Politics in the late 90’s I thought that politics wasn’t a place for women from a working class background like me.

That all changed when I was diagnosed with cancer shortly after the birth of my son in 2015. I was treated at St Thomas’ hospital walking through striking junior doctors everyday to get my treatment, looking across the Thames at the Houses of Parliament. I vowed that if my treatment was successful I’d stop sitting on the sidelines and get stuck in.

Getting voices in Government

Outside of the Green Party I am an advocate for Elect Her to try and encourage other women like me to run in politics because I sincerely believe that women with caring responsibilities need our voices need to be heard in all tiers of government including the London Assembly.

I’ve been a featured Green candidate and recently featured in their “Fund Her” campaign as a working class woman to encourage others to get involved too.

Politics can often seem like an exclusive club for those with affluence and influence, whilst I have neither, I do have a keen sense of what’s right and the changes I’d like to see in our city and across society to make the world a better place.
